Industrial Applications
Propylene Glycol (1,2-Propanediol) is a versatile industrial solvent and intermediate used across a wide range of applications. In the paints, dyes, coatings, adhesives, sealants, and elastomers (CASE) industries, it functions as a solvent, humectant, and viscosity control agent, helping to improve flow, application properties, and formulation stability. Its miscibility with water and many polar organic solvents makes it well suited for waterborne coatings and dye formulations. Propylene Glycol is also widely used in industrial manufacturing as an antifreeze component, heat transfer fluid, and cryoprotectant for temperature-sensitive materials such as proteins, enzymes, and biological samples. In addition, it serves as a solvent and carrier in chemical processing, resins, inks, cleaners, and functional fluids, where its low volatility and hygroscopic nature help maintain moisture balance and prevent drying. Physical Properties
Propylene Glycol is a clear, colorless, viscous liquid that is nearly odorless and highly hygroscopic.
